Best Methods For Removing Whiteheads

Whiteheads, those swollen, red pimples with a telltale white top, are ugly and embarrassing, especially when they show up on your face.  They may make you feel as if everyone is looking directly at the whitehead and not at you, making you self conscious.  Try to relax.  There are very few people who go through high school without suffering the very same fate.  That is not to say that you should just throw up your hands and surrender to your acne.  There are safe ways of removing whiteheads and preventing more from occurring.
Preemptive Measures
Like many issues that can arise in life, it is much easier to take preemptive measures and try to avoid the problem in the first place.  In other words, removing whiteheads is much more difficult than preventing them in the first place.
Good hygiene is an important first step.  Cleanse your skin at least twice a day, more is better.  Use hot water and ordinary soap.  Avoid soaps that have oils or perfumes, as these may only clog your pores more.  After you have washed thoroughly, rinse with cool water to tighten your pores back up.
A good diet will help to keep your skin clear also.  Avoid fried foods or other foods that are greasy.  Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water.  This will help to keep you entire body running smoothly and keep your skin clear.
Exercise is a good thing too.  Working up a good sweat helps to unclog your pores and keep your skin toned and supple.  Be sure to shower as soon as you are finished exercising because drying sweat will attract dirt from the air which can then get into your pores.  Moderate doses of sunshine can also help.
Removing Whiteheads Safely
Even if you do everything you can to keep your body and skin healthy, whiteheads may show up anyway. It is next to impossible to prevent all of them during the tumultuous teen years.  Removing whiteheads properly may prevent scarring and the formation of more pimples.
Hot compresses or steam may help to heal a whitehead faster.  The moist heat will force the infection out of the pore making it easier for your immune system to fight it.  The heat will also cause more blood to flow to the area which will speed up the healing process.
Antibiotic ointments can be applied.  These work best after the sore has opened, that way the antibiotic can get into the pimple and fight the bacteria that is causing the infection.  You may want to put ointment on the surrounding skin as well so that the infection is less likely to spread.  In severe cases, your doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics to heal the acne from the inside out.
What you should never do is pop a whitehead.  Although this may seem like a quick method of removing whiteheads, it may backfire.  Not only is there no guarantee that the pimple will go away simply because you have removed the whitehead, but any dirt or germs on your hands may end up getting into the pimple, causing an even worse infection.  Popping whiteheads may also lead to permanent scarring which you will carry with you long after your high school days are over.
